Ailing 78-y-o man facing extradition hospitalised
published: Wednesday | August 23, 2006

Sacha Walters, Staff Reporter

A 78-year-old man who is facing extradition to the United States with his son on drug-related charges was transferred to a Corporate Area hospital because of his failing health.

The man, Jeffrey Lewis, is completely blind, hypertensive, suffers from recurrent dizzy spells and is reportedly unable to care for himself.

Court appearance

When he and his son, 30-year-old Garth Lewis, appeared before the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday, Resident Magistrate Martin Gayle ordered that he be transferred to the hospital. The men were arrested on August 16 in a massive international counter-narcotics operation that led to the seizure of 11 luxury vehicles.

Mr. Lewis was remanded at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre. The case will be mentioned on September 4.
