Prison officers were doused with human faeces Tuesday in another day of attacks by inmates.

Under-staffing of officers and overcrowding of prisoners have caused the problems, the Prisons Officers Association said.

As prison officers conducted a routine search for prohibited items at the remand prison at Golden Grove, Arouca, Trinidad inmates threw faeces and urine at the officers.

On Monday two prisons officers were allegedly attacked by a group of Nigerian prisoners who have been awaiting deportation.
