JAMAICA MONEY Market Brokers (JMMB) gave Maritime Transport a 27-8 thrashing in the Business House Netball Association's Junior League competition at the Leila Robinson courts on Tuesday evening.

The match reflected the teams' inexperience with a large number of turnovers coupled with many careless passes. The second quarter was the best for Maritime as they scored three of their eight goals.

Both teams started the quarter with renewed energy, as JMMB stepped up their defence and from there on the team only got better. In the third quarter, JMMB switched a defender to goal shoot. Though she never made a shot, she was a good addition to the attack as she was swift and aggressive, making an excellent partner for goal attack and ace shooter Tamara Bryant. Maritime, however, had shooting problems, missing many of their shots which JMMB took advantage of on the rebound. In the third quarter, the transport company only managed one point and then added two more in the last quarter.

Contact calls

After the match, Maritime's captain, Tracian James, said her team needed to improve on its shooting and numerous contact calls.

"It was a good game. We weren't shooting much but we're working on it. It's our first year and for most of the players it's their first time playing netball. Our teammates are very dedicated and eager to learn the game," James said.

Meanwhile, a victorious Dewayne Nugent, coach of the JMMB team, said his team was 'excellent'.

"My girls played very well. They are inexperienced girls but they rose to the challenge. Overall, it was a well played match," Nugent said. For their next game he said his strategy was to "work on our defence. We're coming with a defence drill."

In other Junior League matches, Cable & Wireless B beat Aerotel 23-21 while Wray and Nephew downed ISSA 17-14.

In the Intermediate A Division, National Water Commission A defeated Jamaica Urban Transit Corporation 27-22 and COOL Petroleum eked past Kraft Foods 22-21 and National Housing Trust drew with Wisynco 22-22.

In Intermediate B matches, NEM Insurance beat Azans 27-15 and Bank of Nova Scotia B got by STATIN 23-15.
