NWU settles wage dispute with Air J
published: Saturday | August 26, 2006

The National Workers Union (NWU) has settled its wage dispute with the management of the national airline, Air Jamaica.

The agreement followed a meeting which ended at 2:00 Thursday morning. The parties had been meeting for several months in an attempt to settle a salary claim for the approximately 1,500 employees represented by the union at the airline.

Three senior officers of the National Workers Union are to meet again next Tuesday as they try to resolve an internal dispute for the presidency of the union at next month's congress.

Challengers

Two vice-presidents, Danny Roberts and Vincent Morrison, have declared their intention to challenge the incumbent, Clive Dobson, for the presidency.

Mr. Dobson, in response, has expressed surprise and dismay at this development, saying he had been given a commitment that there would be no challenge to his leadership as long as he wished to remain in the job.

Following Thursday's meeting, Mr. Dobson declined to give details of the meeting but said the discussions were very frank and friendly.
