Foster, Dibbs capture National TT titles

Thirteen year-old Yvonne Foster retained the national table tennis title she won last year and Joseph Dibbs, winner of the national men's title nine years ago in 1997, regained the title, as the Jamaica Table Tennis Association's national championships ended at the UTech auditorium on Sunday night.

Foster outplayed another junior, 14-year-old Tracy-Ann Dattadeen of St Mary High School 11-4, 8-11, 11-6, 13-11, 11-9 (4 -1 ) in the final while Dibbs, the fifth seed, crushed number one seed Peter Moo Young 11-7, 11-4, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11 (4- 1) in the men's final. To reach the final, Foster crushed Andrea Wadsworth 4-0 and Dattadeen knocked out Andrene Hart 4-1 in the semis. In the men's semis Dibbs outlasted Nigel Webb 4-3 in a close encounter while Moo Young had an easy 4-0 victory over Phillip Drummond.

St Andrew women crowned

In parish team events played on Friday, St. Andrew women's team, made up of Foster, Janelle Morris and Shaunda Brash, made it three years in a row as they beat St. Mary 3-1 and blanked St. Catherine 3-0 to keep the crown. On the men's side, former champions Portland, with the team comprising of Dibbs, Alphanso Morris, Samuel Lamount, Dr. Robert Green and Jowain Morris, stopped Kingston 3-1 in the final to win the title. To reach the final, Kingston had clipped St. Catherine 3-2 and Portland had ousted Manchester 3-1 in semi-finals. Defending men's team champions, St. Andrew, did not participate.

In other individual events - the men's and women's singles were sponsored by Northwest Develop-ment, the adult mixed doubles by Windalco and the junior mixed doubles by Dairy Products - the champions won in the finals by the scores shown below:

Rural women's singles - Davene Buchanan (St. Mary) trounced Morine Dawson (St. Catherine) 3-0.

Rural men's singles - Samuel Lamount (Portland) crushed Laten McLish (Man-chester) 3-0.

Veterans over-40 singles - Gary Pantry (St. Catherine) stopped Alphanso Morris (Portland) 3-1.

Women's doubles - Andrea Wadsworth & Andrene Hart clipped Foster & Dawson 3 - 2.

Men's doubles - Darryl Strachan & Rohan Schloss pipped Christopher Marsh & Phillip Drummond 3-2.

Mixed doubles - Moo Young & Foster outscored Wadsworth & Samuel Lamonut 3-1.

Under-18 girls singles - Janelle Morris (Ardenne) beat Tracy-Ann Dattadeen (St. Mary High) 3-1.

Under-18 boys singles - Javaughn Johnson (Campion) nipped Michael Cai (Wolmer's Boys) 3-2

Under-18 girls doubles - Andrene Hart & Yvonne Foster trounced Shaunda Brash & Janelle Morris 3-0

Under-18 boys doubles - Emani McPherson & Cai (Wolmer's Boys) beat Johnson & Stephen Tapper 3-1

Under-18 Mixed doubles - Johnson & Foster crushed Cai & Morris 3-0.

Under-15 girls singles - Shaunda Brash (Holy Childhood) stopped Dattadeen 3-1.

Under-15 boys singles - Johnson (Campion) trounced Jermaine James (Pembroke Hall Club) 3-0.

Under-12 girls singles - Tricia Champagnie crushed Pembroke Hall teammate Nicole Forsythe 3-0

Under-12 boys singles - Fitz Williams edged Pembroke Hall teammate Jordane McKenzie 3-2

Under-9 girls singles - Davia Green pipped Pembroke Hall teammate Matthew-Ann Dawson 3-1

Under-9 boys singles - Raheem McIntosh crushed Pembroke Hall teammate Keifer Spencer 3-0.
