LONDON, England:
A 17-year-old boy who was arrested for the murder of a Jamaican grandmother of two, 55-year-old Carmelita Tulloch, during broad daylight just yards from her home in Vauxhall, south London, appeared in court yesterday.
The police have not divulged the name of the boy because of his age.
He will next appear at Lambeth Youth Court, at Balham Juvenile Court in south London, on October 6.
Ms. Tulloch was knifed to death in London while on her way to work last week, about 9:00 am. Following the incident, the teenager turned himself into the police and was arrested.
Minutes from home
According to reports, Ms. Tulloch was only a few minutes walk from home on her way to work in Vauxhall Cross when she was stabbed to death last week Tuesday morning. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The police described the killing as a "frenzied attack."
A witness told police there had been a struggle and Ms. Tulloch had fallen to the ground with the youth on top of her, stabbing her.
A motive for the murder remains unknown. It is not known whether Ms. Tulloch was the victim of a random attack, a mugging that went wrong, or whether she knew her assailant.
Her husband, 42-year-old Prince Tulloch, is reported to have said that he cannot think of any reason why anyone would want to hurt her as everyone around here knew her and loved her.
