Blackwood tops small list of J'cans at Shanghai Grand Prix

THREE JAMAICANS will be in action at tomorrow's Shanghai Golden Grand Prix in Shanghai, China.

Olympic mile relay bronze medallist Michael Blackwood heads the small list of Jamaicans down to participate.

Blackwood, the 2002 Commonwealth Games champion, will start in the men's one-lap event against Olympic and world champion Jeremy Wariner, Lashawn Merritt and Darold Williamson, all of the United States,.

World Indoor gold medallist Alleyne Francique of Grenada and Bahamian Christopher Brown are also down to compete.

The other Jamaicans, Andrea Bliss and Novlene Williams, will start in the women's 100m hurdles and 400m respectively.

Perry down to compete

Bliss, a silver medallist from last year's Central American and Caribbean Champion-ships, will face world champion Michelle Perry, Olympic champion Joanna Hayes, the world's second fastest woman this year Damu Cherry - all of the United States, along with hometown girls Feng Yun, Liu Jing and in the sprint obstacle event.

Williams, the Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, will face Olympic and world champion Tonique Darling, Hazel-Ann Regis of Great Britain and home girls Tang Xiaoyin, Jiang Xuanxuan and Olga Zaytseva.

Meanwhile, former Jamaica sprint queen Merlene Ottey continues her illustrious career when she faces the starter in the women's 100m.

She, however, will have things tough going up against world champion Lauryn Williams, world indoor champion Me'Lisa Barber, world 200m champion Allyson Felix, Torri Edwards and Cydonie Mothersill.
