Man held in connection with stolen car ring
published: Saturday | September 23, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

A man was yesterday taken into custody in connection with the seizure of 18 stolen vehicles from a residence in Haughton Grove, Hanover.

Investigators say the 13 buses and five motor cars were removed from the premises, which they believe was being used as a "scrap yard" for part of a massive stolen motor vehicle ring.

The man, who reportedly owns the residence, has been identified as 54-year-old Caldon Campbell of Lot 171 Haughton Grove.

Police operation

Campbell was reportedly held about 11:30 a.m. during a police operation. A large assortment of motor vehicle parts and accessories was also recovered.

The Gleaner understands that two men were held by the Ramble police in Hanover about 7:00 a.m. during a roadblock. It is said that they were travelling in a bus that was reported stolen in Kingston on Thursday night.

A police team was sent to Campbell's residence after the men, whose names are being withheld, were questioned.
