The Boyz must become men
published: Saturday | October 7, 2006

And it came to pass that the football tourney bearing the Digicel moniker kicked off with a quartet of aspiring aggregations from Caribbean shores getting-together on the rock to compete in a group of death. Yea, the Reggae Boyz were back in the office after a two-year hiatus and Jamdowners anticipated a feel good moment, for their team was defending champ and the ones to beat, the big fish swimming amongst the sprats.

Now when the soccer gladiators hath come together in Kingston town they proceeded to the headquarters of Jamdown football for a photo op, and Carl the gap-stopper placed his hand upon the cup but that was as close as he would get to it this season. Yeah, though all the coaches braced themselves for a tough competition and Carl was thus aware, but the Boyz were evidently nonchalant. Behold, the tourney got under way and the Boyz bamboozled a small island nation in an opening salvo, romping to a four nil lead by the end of the first half, and then they regressed into obscurity.

left scoring boots

Verily, they left their goal scoring boots hanging on the walls of the dressing room when they returned to the field of play for in the second stanza of the first act the Reggae Boyz were gratified much to the chagrin of their supporters in the stands. Yeah, they produced but a single goal for the next 135 minutes e'en suffering a humbling defeat at the feet of minnows in the process and thus they complacent their way out of repeat as regional champs and their opportunity to participate in the CONCACAF Gold Cup in the land of the free.

Dearly beloved, 'tis but the beginning of the 'Back to Africa' campaign during which the team from the rock hope to earn a place in the World Cup in the land of the Springboks in the Summer of the year 2K10. Let there be a new dawn on thy game; acquire unto thee a technical director from a football world power developing thy youth players into respected attention-getting units at the international level. Thus, they shall again be delightful unto thee, for then they shall belatedly mature from being boyz to men. Selah.
