A judgement call is needed
published: Tuesday | October 10, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Conscience and confiden-tiality sometimes clash and a judgement call has to be made. I have respect for the person/s at FirstCaribbean who exposed the transaction/s between Trafigura and CCOC Associates/Colin Campbell et al.

Jamaica has been so battered by questionable financial trans- actions during this government's administration that finally someone has had enough and taken a stand. That person is very brave and I doubt that there are many people out there in this country's financial community who would have had the guts to make a very personal decision as those people would know the consequences, perhaps life threatening if exposed.

This episode has demonstrated not only the need for campaign financing regulations, but also for legislation to protect those who out of a genuine concern for their country's integrity expose information or activities which threaten them.

We are, etc.,

RICHARD & Y. TODD
