Greg Christie for PM
published: Tuesday | October 10, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Not in recent memory can I recall a public official that has been verbally battered and vilified as the Contractor General, Mr. Greg Christie. Also, not in recent memory have I seen one of our public servants stand his/her ground as firmly as this man has. He did this under severe pressure in his attempt to protect the hard-earned dollars of the Jamaican people.

Most of us would have seen on television how some government officials over the past couple of weeks try to make this man out to be some kind of pariah. They tried to publicly humiliate and discredit him as he tried valiantly to point out the discrepancies that have been taking place in some of our government-run agencies where the alleged misappropriation of funds have been used in an unseemly manner.

A lone shepherd

All well-thinking Jamaicans should be firmly in Mr. Christie's corner. He seems to stand as a lone shepherd in the night. I admire and respect his resilience, forthrightness and fearlessness in the face of adversity. In my book he is a true leader. Jamaica needs more people like him who are willing to stand up for what is right while helping to protect the coffers of the public.

It is with this in mind that I nominate Mr. Greg Christie for the post of Prime Minister. Laugh if you must, but by his actions he has already earned the title, 'Most Honourable'. By the way, I think Dr. Goldston would make the perfect deputy.

I am, etc.,
