Arnett Gardens kick out seven NPL players
published: Tuesday | October 10, 2006

Seven players, including perennial top goal-getter Kwame Richardson, were yesterday sacked by Arnett Gardens Football Club for lack of commitment and effort.

Richardson, along with Lacon Brissett, Conry Hall, David Bernard Jnr, Oneil Marshall, Kierald McCleod and Colin Oldham, were handed their dismissal letters upon arrival for training at the club's Tony Spaulding Sports Complex grounds yesterday evening.

While Charlie Smith were dismissing St. Catherine High during their Manning Cup game at the complex which ended 4-0, coach Glendon "Admiral" Bailey had the fans murmuring about his shock decision.

Effort

"It is early, but you can't wait until it is too late to get our act together. People are not putting out the effort to get it right and that's all we ask, try, and some not trying, so based on that we just have to make this decision now," Bailey told The Gleaner while relaxing in the club's sports bar.

"Right now as you see the season start and we are at the bottom of the table and players (are) just not pulling their weight. We just have to let go who we have to let go," he pointed out.

Arnett Gardens, back-to-back champions in the 2001-02 seasons under coach Jerome Waite, are at the bottom of the table on one point from three games.

They lost 1-3 and 1-2 to Wadadah and Harbour View respectively, before earning their first point in a 1-1 draw with Boys' Town.

"I am a man who like results and anywhere I go I try to get results. Some of the players I figure are here too long and figure they can stick up the club. We just have to make changes right now because we realised that it is not shortage of talent why we're not going places, it is indiscipline and the lack of effort from some players," said Bailey,

"It's like from them getting pay all is well. The commitment and the effort is not there. We are in the hole too long now and we want to go places and it's time the club start to move again," added Bailey.
