Camperdown in key clash with Eltham High
published: Thursday | October 12, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

THIRD-PLACE Camperdown will not only look for revenge but hope to keep pace with second-place Campion when they tackle Group D leaders Eltham in ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup action today.

The Group D race for second place is a very tight one, however, on 13 points - three ahead of Camperdown with two games remaining after today, Campion definitely seem favourites to advance.

Still, Camperdown will not be giving up the ghost just yet as they are only one game behind and they have a slim chance to advance should the difference in points stay the way it is as they face Campion in their final regular-round fixture of the season.

A loss to Eltham today and a likely win for Campion against pointless Kingston High could spell disaster for the team as it would then be an uncatchable six points behind.

After a one-year absence from the competition, Camperdown were off to a sensational start and blasted in 14 goals in two games without conceding any but they were then grounded hard by Eltham with a 3-0 schooling in their next encounter.

Over in Group A, Waterford will hope to keep the pressure on group leaders Excelsior when they face a winless St. Mary's College at home. In the group's other encounter, fifth-place Tarrant will host fourth-place Dunoon and both teams are out of contention.

In Group B, Norman Manley will look to gain ground on group leaders Spanish Town when they host St. Jago, while fourth-place Donald Quarrie face last-place Mona. In Group E, St. George's College, on 12 points, continue to hope for a miracle as they chase leaders Calabar and Jamaica College. St. George's must look for as many goals as possible when they travel to Cumberland.
