Lady Avalanche make history
published: Thursday | October 12, 2006

WESTERN BUREAU:

MONTEGO BAY'S Lady Ava-lanche created history last Saturday when they won the first game staged in the inaugural Western Basketball Association's (WBA) Women's League, outscoring Hopewell Rattlers 23-20 at the Montego Bay Cricket Club Courts.

"The game was a low-scoring affair as a result of the wet surface which inhibited mobility," said Khurt Comrie, the public relations officer for the WBA. "Also, the usual first-game jitters and playing under the floodlights affected the team."

The first game of the scheduled double-header between Trelawny Firecats and MoBay Pacers, which should have opened the season, was not played as a late-afternoon shower prevented the teams from taking the courts. The game has been rescheduled for an unspecified date.

The four-team competition, which is being played in a round-robin format with the sides slated to play each other twice, will continue on Friday afternoon with Firecats meeting Rattlers at 6:00 p.m at the same venue.
