Seven killed on weekend
published: Wednesday | October 18, 2006

Seven men, including Beenie Man's brother, were killed on the weekend in separate incidents involving both the police and criminals across the island.

According to police reports, about 11:10 p.m. on Saturday, Bryan Smith, 32, brother of popular entertainer Moses Davis (Beenie Man), was standing outside a business establishment in Pinto district, St. Andrew, when a group of men approached him and shot and stabbed him several times. Smith was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, police fatally shot a man after a reported shoot-out in Red Hills, St. James, on Monday morning. According to reports, at 1:30 p.m, the police responded to a call from residents. On their arrival, the lawmen saw three men whom they accosted. The men reportedly opened fire at the police who returned the fire, hitting one of the men. The others escaped. A home-made firearm with two 9mm cartridges was taken from the injured man who later died. He is still unidentified.

The police also shot and killed a man after he pointed a gun at a police party, at Shrewsbury district in Westmoreland, on Saturday night. Dead is Jason Henry, 20 otherwise called 'Punky' of Granville, St. James.
