GUYANA: Ban imposed on 'Passa Passa' from Jamaica
published: Thursday | October 19, 2006

Guyana's National Communications Network, the country's broadcaster, has banned the promotion of the Jamaican-born street party known as 'Passa Passa' which has swept across the region, the BBC Caribbean Magazine radio broadcast reported.

The corporation said 'Passa Passa' is not a type of music but "sexually charged displays of gyrating women barely in tops and minis, flashing intimate flesh," the BBC radio programme reported. Earlier in 2006, the Education Minister of Grenada called for 'Passa Passa' to be banned there.

In Guyana reports indicate that people often get drunk and activities get out of hand. Some go to the event with a video camera to record 'dirty gyrations,' BBC Caribbean Magazine reported.
