Contractor General, Greg Christie, yesterday received documents on the contractual arrangement between the Dutch oil trader, Trafigura Beheer, and the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ), a Government entity.
This is in response to an investigation launched by the office of the Contractor General into the Government of Jamaica and Trafigura contract.
In keeping with an October 23 deadline issued by the Office of the Contractor General for the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Science and Technology, Energy to submit information on the oil accord between the PCJ and Trafigura, the ministry handed over documents to Christie about 11:30 a.m. yesterday.
Mr. Christie told The Gleaner that he could not determine at this time if the information received satisfied all the requests made by his office.
However, he said, if necessary, his office would make further demands as it relates to documents linked to the deal.
The findings of the probe will be submitted to Parliament.
On October 9, Christie wrote Minister of Industry, Commerce, Science and Technology with Energy, Phillip Paulwell, informing him that in light of significant public interest in the Trafigura affair, his office would be initiating a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the award of a contract by the Government to Trafigura.
