Get ready for Hurricane Duppy
published: Saturday | October 28, 2006

Jah Foresight, Contributor

I just love country life; it is always a pleasure to read the 'Roving with Lalah' which is published in this paper every Thursday. This week, the popular series or rerun includes areas such as Bath in St. Thomas and Mocho in St. James. I am fascinated by the role and importance of the Mayor of Bath. I am wondering if he is addressed by the title His Worship. St. Thomas is a very important parish to have two mayors and there is no conflict!

There is a strange situation taking place in St. Elizabeth and I hope that Roving with Lalah will take an interest in this one. It is of importance to me since it affects the life of my co-worker and has been affecting the life of her family and neighbours. It is alleged that a separated wife is not happy that she has received buns. This is not the bun from the bakery but the one of the heart. She is totally unhappy that the new woman is receiving her ex husband's money. So she decided to travel to Montego Bay to hire the services of an obeahman, to set a spell on this new lady. It is alleged that the obeahman sent four bad duppies to harass the family of the lady. These duppies have been creating a storm in the home of this lady. A local obeah woman decided to intervene to help relieve the stress. The duppies have been quiet since. She has charged the family a sum of $20,000 and so far she has not received a cent. This local lady has decided to release the duppies back in the district if the money is not paid by this weekend. She feels that she did an excellent job and the neighbours should have chipped in to help.

My co-worker is scared to death. It is alleged that the duppies are now targeting the passengers of the last taxi that enters the district at nights. I understand that one of the duppies even spit acid. Last Tuesday, she had to work late and I noticed that she was frantic as she was making several calls on her phone. She asked me to take her home in tears and told me the story. There are some cases that it would be a joke but with a name as Jah Foresight, I was curious.

As I approached the district, the car just shut off! I just could not get it to restart. This was high drama. She made several calls and about thirty folks came to protect the car. As she got out with her family around, the engine roared into action.

My car now has a mysterious illness. I will be driving and then suddenly, the engine dies. This is a large Toyota sedan. My mechanic has taken a look at the situation to no avail. My co worker has told me that everybody has stopped attending night church services in the district. The young men are no longer on the corner. The district is now a real ghost town after six. The villagers are now bracing for this weekend when the spell will be lifted. My co-worker has told me that her grandmother is forcing her to leave the job due to the long distance she has to travel to work. This might be her last week. The local obeah woman is insisting that the troubled family should make a collection from the rest of the district to pay the fees. These are poor farmers and the sum is high. The folks are now bracing for Hurricane Duppy. A gang of duppies has a district under siege and this is not Sandy Bay in Clarendon.

The lotto numbers for last Saturday were: 10, 11, 15, 20, 23, 25 and 3 as the bonus number. There were the consecutive numbers of 10 and 11 and there were two winners of the bonus five category of $256,653 each. The jackpot increased to $26 million.

The jackpot is now $30 million. The numbers on Wednesday were: 16, 18, 22, 27, 29, 34 and 17. There was no consecutive number and one winner of $496,047. I predict that the jackpot will grow until next week up to my birthday for the Saturday draw.
