The Editor, Sir:
This is an open letter to the postmaster general:
Dear Sir: I read with interest in the media of your recent appointment as postmaster general and mused to myself that had I known that the post was available I would have applied for same. This is so, because I am totally convinced that I am the only person in this country who is interested in seeing a competent and efficient postal service, and I also believe that I am the only person in this country who could achieve same.
I worked for the post office during the nights and on holidays while a student at the Kingston Technical High School from 1955 to 1959.
I can assure you that during that time any mail posted in any location throughout the length and breadth of Jamaica was delivered within 48 hours. In the metropolitan area of Kingston and St. Andrew, mail was delivered the same day.
With modern technology in communication, transportation and thousands of unemployed people can you explain why it takes up to one month for me to receive my light and telephone bills causing me untold hardships and embarrassment.
I am writing to offer my services without charge to assist you to streamline the Postal Corporation for better and efficient service.
I am, etc.,
AL RICHARDS
