The Editor, Sir:
The local government election should not be postponed again. It's time for all Jamaican citizens to go to the polls, and moreover, the Prime Minister of Jamaica needs a mandate from the people to continue to govern.
It has happened before in Jamaica where the People's National Party government wreaked havoc in our society and brought it to the point of bankruptcy, and the Jamaica Labour Party came to the rescue - and they will do it again if given the chance to do so by the voters.
The Prime Minister is coming under increasing pressure not to hold any early elections because of the Trafigura crisis. Local elections are due to be held, which has also been suggested as a possible general election date. Recent opinion poll suggests that a majority of the population now want a change of government.
Postponing the elections would send the worst possible signal to the outside world. I have yet to hear a comment from someone who wants the elections postponed AND is not a PNP supporter.
I am, etc.,
