PHYSICAL TRAINER David Bernard Sr. expressed satisfaction with Tuesday's first training session, which is in preparation for Jamaica's 2006 Carib Beer Series/KFC Cup campaign.

Under the watchful eyes of Bernard, coach Junior Bennett, manager Milton Henry and chairman of selectors Ruddy Williams, the players were taken through several fitness routines.

"We started off by doing the anthropometric, which is measure high, weight, body composition, then after that we did aerobic (tests)," Bernard explained.

Flexibility tests

In between, Bernard, who is employed full-time with the Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA), said flexibility and shoulder mobility tests were done.

After that he said they did 10m, 20m, 40m sprints between wickets then mile-and-a-half runs - 10 minutes for batsmen and 9 minutes for the fast bowlers.

Despite no serious competition in the past few months, Bernard said he was pleased with the physical condition of the players.

He said they did some work in the off-season.

" I am pleased with most of the individuals," he said.

"The results vary. Some came in well above average, above average and average," the former national footballer said.

The sessions continued yesterday with strength testing - muscular endurance tests, agility tests and vertical jump and anaerobic tests.

Meanwhile, net sessions will begin next Tuesday and will be followed by medical testing with Dr. Akshai Mansingh next Thursday.

Missing from Tuesday's training were Nikita Miller, Brenton Parchment and Alton Beckford, who returned home from the States on Tuesday afternoon. Jermaine Lawson, who had personal business, and Wavell Hinds who is scheduled back in the island from West Indies duties later this week, along with Marlon Samuels and Carlton Baugh, who are away with the West Indies Sixes side.

Donovan Pagon, David Bernard Jr., Gareth Breese, Andrew Richardson, Tamar Lambert, Danza Hyatt, Bevon Brown, Odean Brown, Lorenzo Ingram, Dwight Stewart, Andre McCarthy, Simon Jackson, Andre Dwyer, Dennis Bulli, Andre Russell, Shane Powell and Oral Rankine were the players who took part on the first day.

On yesterday's second day, Miller, Parchment, Beckford and Lawson took part in the session, which dealt with strength testing.

The players did muscular endurance, agility test and vertical jump and anaeroblic.
