Residents of North Street in downtown Kingston are soon to be relieved of the daily overflow of sewage affecting them as the National Water Commission (NWC) plans to clean the sewer main on that street.
Over the past few weeks, residents have been affected by overflowing drains in the community which the NWC has said are partly caused by waste from the neighbouring Caribbean Broilers.
Since news of the situation surfaced, Caribbean Broilers has pledged to address the issue but not before the NWC had threatened to take legal action.
However, according to Charles Buchanan, corporate communications manager at the NWC, the commission will in the upcoming weeks undertake the removal of solids and other debris from the North Street drains.
"The end result is to ensure a better operation of the sewage infrastructure and reduce, if not eliminate entirely, the frequency of chokes, overflows and blockages," he said.
