PNP, JLP pledge to revive sugar industry
published: Friday | November 17, 2006

OCHO RIOS, St. Ann:

BOTH THE governing People's National Party and the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) have given their commitment to retain and redevelop the country's ailing sugar industry, despite numerous calls for its scraping.

Speaking at the 69th annual conference of the Jamaica Associa-tion of Sugar Technology at Sunset Jamaica Grande, in Ocho Rios, on Tuesday, Minister of Agriculture, Roger Clarke, said the Government intended to revive the industry.

And speaking at the same function, Opposition Spokesman on Agriculture, Senator Anthony Johnson, said a JLP-led govern-ment will be absolutely committed towards an improvement and an expansion of the sugar industry.
