Simpson ... rides RUM TALK.
With last Saturday's 28th Red Stripe Superstakes now history, as far as ex-sponsor Red Stripe Limited is concerned, racing continues in earnest at Caymanas Park tomorrow with another well-supported 12-race programme.
The Pick-9, which has eluded punters for the past five racedays, offers a whopping $2.16 million carryover, this due to a 15-1 upset by RUN ALDEENO in the seventh race, the Red Stripe 2-Y-O Breeders' Stakes over 1400 metres.
Although RUN ALDEENO also baffled Super-6 players, three of them were good enough to win the second Super-6, each receiving a cool $955,857.00.
Similar to last Saturday, tomorrow's programme will facilitate two Super-6s, while the Pick-9 will embrace races four to 12.
We look at the second Super-6 which gets under way with an overnight allowance race (7th) to be contested by nine starters over 1200 metres.
Following his brave second (subsequently disqualified) to CLOCK WORK in the $1.5 million Red Stripe Mile for imported horses last Saturday, JUST SOME THOUGHTS (Paul Francis up) should start a firm favourite to score an overdue victory and in present frame of mind, it will take a brave punter to oppose him despite top weight of 57.0kg.
Still at home
The American four-year-old colt is still very much at home over the shorter trip and should win from GIRL IN GOLD (working well) and TOTAL MOTION.
Next on the programme is a round five race for the Royal Lancaster Trophy to be contested by 12 native bred two-year-old colts and geldings.
This will more than likely be won by the well-forward debutante RUM TALK, to be ridden by title-chasing Trevor Simpson for 14-time champion trainer Philip Feanny.
RUM TALK, a bay colt by Royal Minister out of Good As Gold, has worked well for his initial outing and should open his account immediately at the expense of CHIPONYOURSHOULDER, who showed promise on his recent debut (third) behind NATURALLY ROYAL over 1100 metres and has looked sharper at exercise since.
Down in class
CORDITE, now dropped in class and back to his happy hunting ground, is tipped to resume winning ways in the ninth race, Division II of the Violet Armond Memorial Cup over 1600 metres.
CORDITE, who has won six times this season, usually has the beating of this level (claiming $240,000 - $210,000) and should lead home DIGITEC, MAMBO and FAIR QUEEN in the 11-strong field.
The course specialist NUMERO UNO is also down in class after finishing a close fourth to SCOTCHONTHEROCKS over the distance on November 1 and being best drawn on the stands' side, should rebound at the expense of NASATOL and ROYAL MALICE, both specialists over the course as well.
The late kicking I AM PAID FOR, also down in class, looks hard to oppose in the Glen T. Williamson Cup over 2000 metres, while it should be SIR MOHANDAS BABA over SEEMELATER and RENEE'S STAR in the closing 1400-metre race for conditional $160,000 claimers.
