CD launch
published: Thursday | November 23, 2006

(From left) Prof. Ronald Young, dean, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, UWI, inspects the CD along with Dr. Howard Reid, Mrs. Grant-Cummings, Prof. Ivan Goodbody and Mable Tenn.

The Mona Institute of Applied Sciences (MIAS) launched 'Caribbean Sea Squirts - The Goodbody Collection', the world's first multimedia CD compilation of Caribbean Ascidians, which is the result of a successful collaboration between the Mona Institute of Applied Sciences (MIAS), Professor Ivan Goodbody, and the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica.

The guest speaker for the evening's activity was Professor Ronald Young, Dean, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of the West Indies, Mona, who will give a talk titled, 'The Meek Shall Inherit'.

'Caribbean Sea Squirts - The Goodbody Collection', documents the Ascidians of the Caribbean using photographs, diagrams, voice, and text by Professor Goodbody. This work will be used in teaching and species identification by students, researchers, marine biologists and environmentalists locally and internationally. After reviewing the CD, Dr. Patricia Kott AO, Queensland University, Brisbane, Australia, one of the foremost experts in the biology of ascidians, made this comment: "The collection will ensure that successive generations of students and others interested in the marine environment will have access to his knowledge of these mysterious and often beautiful creatures; and they will enjoy the very real satisfaction that comes from recognising the species and understanding something of their role and significance in marine ecosystems."

Discounted price: $4,000 until January 3, 2007

To order please call MIAS at 970-2021/970-2042, or email: mias@uwimona.edu.jm
