After no less than four good chances at goal, Tivoli Gardens striker Roland Dean scored the one that mattered most when he found the back of the net in the 90th minute to give his team a 2-1 win over Boys' Town at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex.

The win ensured Tivoli started the Wray and Nephew National Premier League second round with full points and pushed their overall tally to 19. Boys' Town have 15 points.

Dean's last minute goal, which was a looping kick over the head of an advancing Kirk Porter, could be seen as the answer to Boys' Town 's opening goal which was scored by Peter Keyes in the second minute.

Equaliser

In between, substitute Horace Howell, five minutes after replacing Oraine Simpson, headed in Fabian Davis' corner to equalise in the 61st minute.

Tivoli could have equalised from the first half when Christopher Jackson's screamer from about 40 yards away hit the post.

Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic, who is expected to be announced as national senior coach this week, seemed impressed by the effort as he watched from the stands.

The slippery and muddy surface caused by early afternoon showers made for a difficult 92 minutes of football. Puddles of water on the pitch made dribbling an exercise in futility while controlling the ball was a matter of trial and error.

This meant the teams would have to adjust their style of play and one team did it better.

"It's not the type of game that's going to encourage a lot of dribbling," noted Boys' Town coach Andrew Price. "We told the guys to go and stay out there and fight but we didn't fight for the entire 90 minutes and Tivoli wanted it more in the end."

Tivoli coach Calvert Fitzgerald said his team didn't relish the conditions either and at half-time they were more convinced of how they should go about winning.

"We know we couldn't play any free-flowing football so we just had to get the ball up front and try and get some goals," said Fitzgerald.
