Waterhouse clinch points
published: Monday | November 27, 2006

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Waterhouse - 3

Kevin Lamey 19th, Marco McDonald 38th, Irvino English 85th (pen.)

August Town -2

Anthony Myers 25th, Gary Brooks 76th

It was back to business for Wray and Nephew National Premier League defending champions Waterhouse and they returned to winning ways, battling their way to a 3-2 victory over struggling August Town at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

However, dispatching a determined home team was no easy task and the title holders had to regain their league twice before coming away with all three points.

Waterhouse ace striker Kevin Lamey fired in from close range to put the cup holder's in front in the 19th minute, after the industry of the always busy Damion Williams.

Six minutes later the home team would strike back and defender Anthony Myers 35 yard effort, struck hard and low left Waterhouse custodian Richard McCallum rooted as it flew to his left and into the back of the net. Marco McDonald headed the league leader's back in front in the 38th minute, but August Town front man Gary Brooks slid in on the wet sloppy surface to bring his team back level in the 76th minute.

Exceptional

Lamey who had an exceptional game, was however not to be outdone. He would again make his presence felt when turned away to leave defender Myers for dead just inside the 18-yard area, giving the burly last man no option but to bring him down. Irvino English then stepped up to slot the penalty kick coolly to the left of August Town keeper Devon Haughton, securing all three points for the Drewsland team in the 85th minute. They now have 28 points.

"The team showed a lot of character to come up with this victory, because the August Town team never gave up," said Waterhouse coach Barrington Gaynor.

"It's a very good victory especially after coming off that disappointing 1-0 loss to Harbour View, things are pretty much back to normal," added Gaynor who had been the target of several irate Waterhouse fans after the teams first end of round final loss.

For an August Town team that have found points hard to come by in recent times the result was yet another disappointing one.

"The team played well but we gave up some soft goals, it's a very disappointing loss because we were at least looking for a point at home today," said August Town assistant coach Dominique Spaulding.
