If
you have not yet purchased tickets for the ICC Cricket World Cup (CWC), your
chance of attending the games of your choice lies in applying for a ticket before
11:00 p.m. tomorrow night.
Delroy Taylor, project officer in charge of ticketing at the World Cup (CWC), has said that although ticket sales are not going as well as anticipated, it is very important to get tickets before the third phase for applying for tickets.
"Applying before the second phase closes is the only way to secure your tickets," Mr. Taylor said.
Tickets, which went on sale on May 1 this year, are being sold in three phases. The first two phases involve applying online or at the CWC 2007 downtown Kingston offices. However, when the final phase opens in January, there is no guarantee that one can get tickets for particular games as those games may have been sold out at the end of the second phase.
Part
of history
Mr. Taylor has said it is important that persons, especially Jamaicans, get their tickets early in order to be a part of history when the tournament starts in 102 days.
As of Tuesday afternoon, Jamaica lagged behind the United Kingdom, the United States, Trinidad and Tobago, Australia and Barbados in ticket sales.
Just over 55 per cent of the approximately 816,000 tickets have been sold thus far. And with just the third phase of ticketing to go, CWC 2007 may not attain the 75-80
per cent capacity it has projected.
Some 626,845 people out of an overall capacity of 825,000 or 79 per cent attended the 52 matches and the opening ceremony at
the 2003 tournament held in
South Africa.
