The sale of a gov't vehicle
published: Thursday | November 30, 2006

The Editor, Sir:

Opposition Spokesman on Finance and Planning, Mr. Audley Shaw, has accused the Finance Ministry of breaching guidelines governing the sale of a government vehicle formerly assigned to Information and Development Minister, Senator Colin Campbell, states a Gleaner report.

I have no doubt that Finance Minister Omar Davies officially approved the sale of this government vehicle to Senator Campbell, and clearly, Minister Davies has the legal authority to do so within the framework of the Ministry of Finance's guidelines and regulations. The Finance Minister has the legal authority to authorise the sale of any government vehicle to any civil or public servant within his erudite and ministerial discretion.

Bearing in mind that Mr. Campbell was a senior government senator, there is absolutely nothing wrong with him purchasing the vehicle which was previously assigned to him as minister. Mr. Shaw's comments against the sale of this government vehicle to Senator Campbell are silly, unwarranted and really misguided.

I am, etc.,
