Lions hunt finals berth
published: Tuesday | December 12, 2006

Santa Cruz, St. Elizabeth:

Defending champions Tafari Lions will be seeking to qualify for their second straight final in two years when they take on Ginger Hill in the semi final of the St. Elizabeth FA President's Cup KO this afternoon at 3:30 p.m.

In the other semi-final, Holland Police Youth Club will be hoping to get by Rasta Camp.

The Lions, now competing in the South Central Super League after capturing the Wray and Nephew Major League, advanced after eliminating New Holland 2-0, while Holland, with a brace from Davian Wilson, booked their spot by outscoring Value P 2-1 in quarter-final game last week.

In the other games, newly-promoted division two team Ginger Hill surprised the higher division teams with a 3-1 victory over Appleton (formerly Thornton) to secure their semi-final place and Rasta Camp sent Black River United packing with a 2-1 victory.

The feature game of the day will be at Appleton where the Linval Wilson-coached Lions will clash with Ginger Hill.

Tafari Lions, which had their most successful season last year, winning three titles - Major League, mid-season final and the KO where they beat NPL team Wadadah of St. James to reach the second round of the all-island KO.

Ginger Hill have not lost a game, scoring seven goals while drawing two games and winning once. Holland should not face many problems and should beat Rasta Camp to reach the final.
