The Editor, Sir:
I write in reponse to the letter 'Great job, Oberlin'. The Cornwall College Boys' Choir is a professional group that seeks to convert its members into world citizens and well-rounded achievers.
With the discipline of music translated into life lessons our major aim is to positively distract students of the institution from academic goals while encouraging a brotherhood and fostering social skills.
Our repertoire is unique, and our sound is now of international standards. We have many awards and accolades to support this claim.
While TVJ's 'All Together Sing' is a remarkable show of talent providing good exposure, its structure is too much about the popular vote, and the hype choir with the good soloist can easily oust the group that has better musicianship, tone and techniques.
Unattractive
Hence, we found it unattractive while in the first season and decided not to re-enter. However, we were encouraged to enter this second season but had to pull out due to reasons beyond our control.
We wish to congratulate Oberlin High on their victory, and to remind that supporter that every person is entitled to their opinion and must be respected for it.
Cornwall College did not show up because of Oberlin's standards or that of any other school. Competition is good, but it must also be decent, and assumptions must always be carefully made. Let us endeavour to set good examples for our youth.
I am, etc.,
