Superintendent Assan Thompson, of the Elletson Road Police Station in Kingston, is seeking to locate the owners of a number of vehicles that have been at the station for more than three years.

Currently there are about 30 cars on the compound at 16 Lower Elletson Road. Most of the cars were found on the streets by the police after they were abandoned by thieves. Some of the cars were scrapped, and parts such as engines and windows were removed.

"The cars are hampering our parking facility for police personnel. Some of the officers have to be parking on the road because there is not enough space on the compound," said Supt. Thompson, who is also the commanding officer.

Although many of the cars have been at the station for about three years, Supt. Thompson said that almost every day a stolen vehicle is found by the officers.

"There has definitely been an increase of vehicles being stolen," he said.

An auction for the uncollected cars is being planned for sometime within the next 90 days.

"We wouldn't want to auction the cars and the owners didn't have the chance to know about their cars," said Supt. Thompson.

Vehicle models and registration numbers

Some of the vehicles and registration numbers are as follows:

White Nissan Sunny A.D. Wagon 3386 DW

Grey Toyota Corolla 9501 DF

White Toyota Corolla 9472 BZ

White and red Toyota Corolla 6866 BT

White Toyota Corolla 6506 BW

White Toyota Corona 8559 AP

Brown Mazda 0233 DE

White Toyota Corolla 8870 BH

Black Ford Explorer 5453 AV

Light-blue Dodge Ram 3906 AF

White Toyota Corolla 7992 DP

Light-grey Nissan Sunny 7555 DD

White Nissan Sunny 0040 BD

Securing your vehicle this Christmas

Always lock your car, even when leaving it for a short time.

Do not keep a spare key hidden on the frame or body of the vehicle.

All windows should be wound up completely. A slightly open window can render all other precautions useless.

Park as close to a building as possible when parking at shopping malls.

Park in well-lit areas.

Do not leave valuables visible in your car. Radios, cellular phones, cameras, attaché case and packages attract attention and can tempt thieves to break in.
