Kissendal wins Hot Shots Pool tourney
Sunil 'Termite' Kissendal won his second major tournament in recent weeks when he captured the Hot Shots singles KO pool tournament at 103 Constant Spring Road last weekend.
Kissendal, who represents Pool Plus in Port Henderson Plaza, won the 'A' class section of the tournament after dispatching former top seed Roy Letts 5-2 in the final to take the lucrative cash prize.
Prior to the final, Kissendal beat the highly ranked Ewart Hall 4-3 in the semis and also beat another top player, Calhoun Melville, in the first round.
'Termite' was elated with his victory and said it had much
significance:
"I am clearly the undisputed number one player in the island having won numerous trophies in the past year. I am ranked number one on www.mobayproper.com and next year I am looking forward to taking it to another level.
"My intention is to seek sponsors with a view to playing in overseas tournaments," he explained.
Kevin Davis came from behind to clip Leslie 'Toothpick' Puranda 4-3 in the 'B' class final which generated much excitement as the scores were locked on three separate occasions - 1-1, 2-2, 3-3.
Melbourne, Iyante, Windalco score wins
In the JTTA/Northwest Development national table tennis club's league, Melbourne edged hosts Friendship 3-2 in Group 1 at Campion College and visitors Iyante blanked Pembroke Hall 3-0. In Group Two, hosts Windalco Kirkvine Sports Club II beat St. Ann Bauxite 3-1.
Although losing, Friendship, who had won all their previous matches, still lead the points standings in Group One with 13, four ahead of UWI and Melbourne on nine points each with defending champions Windalco KSC I on four points. Friendship, UWI and Melbourne each have a match remaining while Windalco KSC I have three matches left to play.
The win by Iyante in Group Two takes them to 15 points, earned from five wins from as many starts. They are followed by Windalco KSC II (10 points), Pembroke Hall (nine) and St. Ann Bauxite (three).
Windalco KSC II have played all their matches while Pembroke Hall and Iyante have a match in hand. St.. Ann Bauxite have two matches remaining. The top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals.
Tafari Lions are champs
Tafari Lions are still celebrating their 1-0 win over Rasta Camp in the final of the St. Elizabeth KO champions for the second straight year.
The Lions who are also the St. Elizabeth Wray and Nephew Major League champions earned the right to represent the parish once again when Errol Wright scored from the penalty spot in the ninth minute of extra time, this after both teams played to a 0-0 scoreline in regulation time in the final at the Braes River Sports Complex last Thursday.
Coach of Tafari Lions, Linval Wilson, said he was very pleased to win the title for the second time and said he will now be hunting the All-Island KO title.
"We are going to make the parish proud this time because we now have some good schoolboy players in our camp," he said.
Last season, the Lacovia-based team beat NPL outfit Wadadah of St.. James on aggregate to advance to the second round but were eliminated by Tivoli Gardens.
Appleton Fun Day
Members of the Thornton community will be hosting a sports fun day and fashion show on New Year's Day on the grounds of Appleton Sports Club in St. Elizabeth.
Several teams from the surrounding communities will take part in football, cricket, and netball, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Apart from sporting activities, which will take place in the day, there will also be the crowning of Miss Appleton and a fashion show dubbed Miss Williamsfield. This section is expected to start at 7:00 p.m.
There will also be live performances from Professor Nuts, Ninja Man, Noddy Virtue, Round Head and General B.
South Central Super League
Action in the South Central Confederation Super Plus Super League continues on Tuesday with Sporting Central of Clarendon taking on St. Catherine's Newlands at Brancourt at 3:00 p.m.
On Wednesday, Georges Valley of Manchester face St. Catherine's Rivoli at Decarteret and St. Catherine's Arlington tackle Dunbeholden in the parish derby at Prison Oval. Both matches are scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
Tafari Lions of St. Elizabeth will face Newlands of St. Catherine at Lacovia on Thursday, also at 3:00 p.m.
In action from matches played recently, Humble Lion beat George Valley 2-1, Dunbeholden defeated Los Perfectos 1-0 while Arlington and Original Hazard ended 2-2.
