RENO, still holding a match in hand, yesterday moved to 31 points and joint second place in the National Premier League standings, if only for a couple hours, after beating last-place Naggo Head 2-0 in their early game at Ferdie Neita Park.
Drian McNain was gifted Reno's first goal in the 44th minute off a poor clearance inside Naggo Head's box and Ricardo Scott outjumped his marker in the second half to flash a header wide of goalkeeper Leon Goffe in the 77th.
The result left Reno's coach, Wendell Downswell, hoping the afternoon's late games would keep his team two points off leaders and champions Waterhouse.
"We achieved our objective as we came with the intention to get three points," he said. "We're hoping other results this afternoon will be in our favour."
Harbour View, who started the afternoon second on 31 points, were played Portmore United in last night's late match.
Reno's fortunes have dramatically changed this season since the Westmoreland team switched their home games from Frome to a better playing surface at St. Elizabeth Technical High School and Downswell believes his team could get even better."
"This is a team, which for the past three to four seasons, was averaging 35 points and just avoiding relegation," he pointed out.
"We're one of the dark horses," he added. "Nobody expected us to be in this position. It is just for us to consolidate on that," added the Reno coach, who is already looking to a match-up with Arnett Gardens at home on Wednesday.
