HYDE
Harbour View's coach, Lenworth Hyde Sr., was more than pleased with the performance of his team when they pulled off a successful coup on the road with a fighting 2-1 victory over Village United at the Elliston Wakeland Sports Complex on Wednesday.
New Wray and Nephew National Premier League (NPL) hotshot Kavin Bryan put his team ahead in the second minute only for Leon Irving to pull his team level in the 48th. Fabian Taylor, returning to form resembling his best, ensured his team took all three points when he found the winner in the 75th minute.
"Most definitely it was a good result away from home," a beaming Hyde said of the victory that kept them in the joint leadership position, on 37 points, with Waterhouse.
"We played a disciplined game and adapted quickly to the windy conditions and I think the referee had a good game too," he said of Hughill Thompson before flashing a smile.
Village United were losing their first game under the guidance of interim coach Fitzroy 'Johnny' Reid.
First hiccup
Village's loss was their first negative result in four games under the guidance of interim coach, Fitzroy 'Johnny' Reid. Previously they drew 0-0 with Portmore United, beat the previously unbeaten defending champions Waterhouse 1-0 before drawing 0-0 with Wadadah.
While disappointed with the result, Reid still found positives in his team's performance.
"Gradually we are improving. When you look at how well we have done against teams in the top half of the table you would see that we have been good, but we are just not consistent," Reid said.
"In today's game we started with a plan which was working beautifully until the players went back to old ways. Our problem right now is that we create a number of chances but the goals just are not coming. We introduced Christopher Stone today and you saw what he did. With a few more sessions he should do much better," he added.
Had it not been for faulty shooting, Village could have shared the points or even taken them. They created a number of chances, but failed to put them away despite the fact that former Portmore United player, Kemeel Wolfe, looked the best player on show.
Stone, a second-half substitute, showed flashes of brilliance and could have earned his team a share of the points in the 82nd minute. He turned his man inside out before shooting just wide with the left foot from inside the box.
Prior to that, Taylor missed an almost empty goal in the 80th minute for Harbour View.
