Guyana fall for paltry 204
published: Sunday | January 21, 2007

Paul-Andre Walker, Staff Reporter

Right arm fast bowler Andrew Richardson's performance left Jamaica with a good chance of securing first innings points after just the first day of their Carib Beer Series game against Guyana at Kensington Park yesterday.

Richardson took three for 21 as Guyana were dismissed for a paltry 204 all out, while Jamaica were moving along smoothly at 40 for one at the close.

Opening the bowling at Kensington Park, Richardson quickly put Guyana under pressure, dismissing Sewnarine Chatergoon for five after the left hander played a careless leg-glance to be out caught at square leg by Nikita Miller.

The runs dried up for the Guyanese team after that and Richardson, who was a constant bother for them was in the thick of things soon after.

This time the pacer, just returning from injury, sent back the off-stump of Azeemal Hanif (two) to leave the visitors struggling at 17 for two.

Narsingh Deonarine, who ended with a top score of 68 in the innings, teamed up with Travis Dowlin (31) to take Guyana safely to lunch at 55 for two.

However, Deonarine was lucky to have been there after David Bernard Jr, with his first ball of the day, found the edge of his bat before he had scored only to watch in despair as Carlton Baugh Jr. floored the chance.

Guyanese left sliding

After the lunch break Richardson returned to knock over Dowlin and leave the Guyanese team sliding at 57 for three.

Then Ramnaresh Sarwan went run out for one, before leg-spinner Odean Brown grabbed three for 29 off 14 overs to break the back of Guyana's middle order.

Jamaica's other wicket-takers were Jermaine Lawson with two for 74 and Nikita Miller one for 25.

With 17 overs remaining in the day Jamaica lost the wicket of Brenton Parchment for 18.

Parchment had looked in good form before his dismissal. He hit four boundaries before he went caught at third slip off the bowling of Reon King.

Lorenzo Ingram (11) and Danza Hyatt (four) will resume this morning.
