McLean's death leaves void in parish council
published: Tuesday | January 30, 2007

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

The St. Catherine Parish Council now has 22 Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) councillors to 17 for the People's National Party (PNP), following the recent death of PNP councillor, Glenmore McLean.

Mr. McLean, who was 65 and who had been ailing for sometime, was the longstanding councillor for the Lluidasvale division. Chairman of the St. Catherine Parish Council, Mayor Andrew Wheatley, yesterday said the death of Councillor McLean, has left a void in the parish council. He said the Lluidasvale division will now have to be served directly by the mayor.

"It is regrettable that we had to bury a councillor who served the residents of Lluidasvale to the best of his ability," remarked Wheatley.

The death of councillor McLean has left two divisions now under the direct representation of the St. Catherine Parish Council, following the resignation last month of Councillor Natalie Campbell- Rodrigues from the Westchester division in the Portmore municipality.

Apart from being a politician, the late Mr. McLean was also a businessman who owned properties and was seen generally as a good person by those who came in contact with him. He was buried in Lluidasvale on Sunday, January 28.
