Mayberry Swim Meet raring to go
published: Thursday | February 1, 2007

THE NINTH Mayberry Investments Schools Swim Meet will be held at the National Stadium pool from February 9-10.

More than 1,100 primary, prep and high school swimmers as well as swimmers from universities will compete for top honours at the two-day championships.

Speaking at the Tuesday launch held at the Social Development Commission (SDC) office, president of the Amateur Swimming Association of Jamaica (ASAJ), John Eyre, said he was impressed with the level of development of the sport.

"After seeing the magnificent team spirit by a number of primary schools in the 2006 competition, Mayberry Investments has decided to place a special focus on this area of the competition," Eyre said.

Top prize to be announced

He said Mayberry would continue awarding trophies as well as special awards to each swimmer on the winning primary school team. The top prizes will be announced just before the competition starts.

Eyre also said the ASAJ was delighted with the support as it worked hand in hand with developing primary school swimming, particular through their Swim Jamaica Programme.

Gary Peart, chief executive officer (CEO) of Mayberry Investments Limited, said Mayberry was now in its 21st year and looked forward to many long years of association with the ASAJ. He said the decision to sponsor the meet was an easy one as it brought out values and attitudes of a high level, allowing the swimmers to strive for international standards.
