After picking up a three-day suspension from the operations stewards for careless riding aboard ISLAND CIGAR in the closing race at Caymanas Park, on January 20, jockey Oneil Mullings had his suspension reduced on appeal to the commission.
The full commission heard the jockey's appeal yesterday and after hearing the facts of the case, reduced the original suspension from three to one day, effective Wednesday, February 7.
Mullings was penalised for causing interference to both MAMBO and SIR KNIGHT at the half mile, resulting in the disqualification of his mount.
Also suspended by the stewards, following inquiries at the Winchester Road offices of the Jamaica Racing Commission, on Tuesday, was jockey Andrew Thomas.
Thomas was stood down for two racedays for careless riding aboard ZEALOT, which passed the post second in the 10th and final race last Saturday, this for causing interference to JACK'S CHILD in the vicinity of the half mile. His suspension takes effect, February 7.
ZEALOT, who was two lengths second to the 17-1 outsider DUST ROCK, was disqualified and placed seventh - behind JACK'S CHILD.
