It's the news that parents worldwide have been waiting for. Now, there's a way for video game addicts to get up-to-the-minute news from all over the world, while playing their favourite video games.
The Nintendo gaming company is set to launch an online news service through its popular Wii console.
The Wii News Channel will primarily feature top news stories and photographs from The Associated Press (AP).
Consoles with a broadband Internet connection and the Opera Web browser will be able to access the free news channel, which will offer AP news in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, and Swiss-German languages.
The news of the day will be displayed through an interactive map. Users can zoom into different territories to get news from each region.
The AP has a two-year contract to provide news and photos to Nintendo.
The Wii has been a surprise hit for Nintendo as it competes with the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft's Xbox 360 consoles. It has been disappearing quickly from store shelves across the world and is quickly becoming commonplace in Jamaican middle-class homes.
