HOLMWOOD'S CLASS Two athlete Salcia Slack was the star performer at Saturday's Youngster Goldsmith Classic held at the Stadium East complex - winning three events.
Slack claimed the long jump with a leap of 5.45 metres and the triple with 11.78m. She then captured the discus throw, which was done inside the National Stadium, with a throw of 37.85m. She, however, had mixed feelings about her performance.
"(I was) not comfortable with the triple because I think that I could have done better," said Slack, whose personal best is 12.45m.
"(The) long jump was fairly done, so too was the discus though I wanted to throw 42 metres."
However, she believes things are on track for Champs.
On target
"I think I am ready to take the Class Two champion girl's prize and possibly top the overall section," Slack said. She said she was on target with just about seven weeks to go before Champs.
"Whatever I train for is coming out little by little."
At Champs she will be aiming to jump 6.15m in the long jump, over 13m in the triple and throw 42m for the discus.
In the sprint hurdles, Natasha Ruddock ran Toni-Ann D'Oyley to the line but lost out in a close finish of the Open event. D'Oyley won the event in 14.36 while Ruddock finished in 14.55.
Janelle Gordon of Wolmer's (14.90) won Class Two while Vere's Lanice Hall (12.45) took the 80m for Class Three girls.
In the boys' events, Calabar's Jermaine Myers (14.35) took the Class Two 110m hurdles while his teammate, Warren Weir (14.15), won Class One.
Long hurdles
In the long hurdles, Edwin Allen's Andrea Sutherland and Manchester High's Shana-Gaye Tracey, a former Carifta Games 300m hurdles champion, broke 60 seconds for the first time.
Sutherland won the event in 59.64 seconds while Tracey was second in 59.75.
Markino Buckley of UTech/ MVP won the men's Open event in 52.17 while Dwayne Extol of Wolmer's won the 300m hurdles in 55.24.
Julian Reid of Wolmer's won the Class One long jump with a leap of 6.97 while St. Jago's Sasha-Kaye Mathias took the girls' event with 5.73m.
Holmwood's Deborah Rose won the girls' Class One discus with a throw of 41.30m while JC's Ramone Berch (15.62m) took the Class One boys' shot put.
