FOUR PREMIER League teams booked their places in the second round of the Red Stripe Champions Cup knockout competition yesterday.
They are August Town, Boys' Town, Village United and Wadadah. Western Confederation team Downs United also advanced yesterday.
August Town got through with a 4-0 aggregate victory over St. George's and Boys' Town moved on with a 5-1 aggregate win over Tafari Lions.
Wadadah secured their place after a 2-0 aggregate victory over Bodles United, while Village advanced after a 9-3 aggregate victory over Central Kingston.
Downs United advanced on the away-goal rule after they and Salt Spring ended tied 6-6 on aggregate.
At Winchester Park, Village, led by a brace from substitute Athol Franklin (68th and 69th minutes), registered a comfortable 6-2 victory over their opponents.
Former national Under-20 representative Newton Sterling opened the scoring for Village in the seventh minute when he headed home a well-placed cross from teammate Ricardo Reid.
Ian McNuff doubled Village's lead in the 30th minute when he fired home a powerful left-foot shot past goalkeeper Shawn Bailey. Two minutes later, Luke Tate scored Village's third when he dribbled his way past three Central Kingston defenders and rolled the ball into the back of the net. Village led 3-0 at the half-time break.
Central Kingston's coach, Karl Russell, made a couple of substitutions at the start of the second half and was rewarded in the 60th minute when substitute Eugene Wilson fired home a spectacular 25-yard free kick past custodian Elvis Hart. However, eight minutes later, Franklin restored Village's three-goal cushion when he volleyed home a powerful left-foot shot past Bailey.
A minute later Franklin completed his brace when he dazzled his way past two defenders to fire home to the left of the advancing Bailey. Richard Allison scored Central Kingston's second goal in the 78th minute when he headed home a corner kick from Relando Daley.
Kenardo Wilson completed Village's scoring in the 89th minute when struck their sixth goal of the game.
