GREENE

BLACK RIVER, St. Elizabeth:
Not many young persons who leave their community to study overseas return to offer their services at that level. However, for Tamara Greene, attorney-at-law, returning to Black River to serve is a pleasure. She grew up in the community with parents Rev. Sylvester Greene and educator Beverley Greene.
"From my early days at Hampton High School in Malvern, I knew I wanted to study law," she tells The Gleaner, adding that she intends to make the best use of her career, defending human rights. Speaking of her fascination with law, she says she sees it as a means of providing service to persons who require justice, either through a criminal or civil sitting.
While her educational journey has been a long one, the former Hampton deputy head girl says that there was no intention of giving up. After seven years at Hampton, she acquired a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of the West Indies (UWI). Although eyeing the legal profession, she took a break from studying (between 1999 and 2001) and taught history and social studies at the St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STEHS).
Law was in my blood
"I thought about it for a while whether to do a law degree or to do my master's, but it's like the law thing was in my blood. So between 2001-2004, I did my law degree studying at UWI, Mona, and Cave Hill. Barbados was a great experience, despite the fact that I was in a different country," says Greene.
Shortly after graduating from the Norman Manley Law School in May, 2006, she secured a job with Cecil Roy July, attorney-at-law, at his chambers (law office) in Black River. "The greatest part of the job for me was going to the courtroom where I gained a great deal of experience from that (internship) period. "I was very elated when I received the information that I have been called to the Bar, it's like Greene getting the green light to go forward!"
A Christian, who has a baby brother Omar, she enjoys gardening and teaching Sunday school at the Sellington Baptist Church.
