So Blessed for Stakes victory
published: Saturday | February 17, 2007

WILD GLITZ, running at odds of 7-1 with stable apprentice Jason Simpson aboard, romps the sixth race for maiden four-year-olds and up over 1400 metres at Caymanas Park last Saturday for trainer Vin Edwards, who is also a part owner. With the Sir Howard Stakes co-feature having to be abandoned due to insufficient entries, the native bred three-year-old fillies take the spotlight at Caymanas Park today in the Hot Line Stakes over 1200 metres.

Confined to non-winners of two, the $575,000 feature has attracted eight starters, including the Richie Todd-trained RAGING FURY who romped the opening race of the campaign - the Eight Thirty Sprint for maiden fillies over the straight five course on January 27.

RAGING FURY, who is out for only the third time, is still in very good nick and although this represents a tougher assignment, she seems at a stage of rapid improvement and should give a good account of herself.

She faces stiff opposition from the unbeaten SO BLESSED, JAZZY JET, MAGIC MOMENT and GLITTER CLEARANCE who ran on strongly to win over this trip on January 13 in a time of 1:15.4.

However, the form of that race has not been working out and the quartet of SO BLESSED, MAGIC MOMENT, RIO INFINITO and JAZZY JET have more appeal.

MAGIC MOMENT, to be ridden by five-time champion jockey Trevor Simpson for trainer Winchester McIntosh, was not disgraced against some very good horses over 1100 metres last Saturday, finishing 7-1/2 lengths fourth to the imported filly COMMANDING LIGHT after running wide into the straight with inexperienced apprentice Delroy Beharie aboard.

Prior to that she was a good winner over 1100 metres on January 20 and, in view of the last effort, is due every respect with less to do in present company.

The same is true of the Richard Azan-trained JAZZY JET and RIO INFINITO from the stables of Gary Subratie. Both have trained well coming into this race and on past performance, neither can be left out of calculations.

Still, the one to beat must be SO BLESSED who made an auspicious debut over 1100 metres on Boxing Day, winning by 7-3/4 lengths in the smart time of 1:07.1.

That performance stamped her as a smart recruit and judging from the manner in which she has carried herself at exercise coming into this race, should not only start favourite but make it two in a row as well.

Owned by Joseph 'Fudgie' Duany and trained by 14-time champion Philip Feanny, SO BLESSED is a half sister to the outstanding MIRACLE MAN, she being by Outrigger out of Hya.

Connections have high hopes for her in the upcoming Classics and she should use today's race as a stepping stone to better things. SO BLESSED has good speed and providing she comes away cleanly from the number one post position, leading all-time jockey Winston Griffiths should do the rest.

Other firm fancies on the card are the speedy TIME OF MY LIFE in the 2nd, WILD AT HEART in the 5th, CAPTAIN BONE in the 6th and SENOR GATO to catch the fleet-footed ROBIN'S BAY in the nightpan.
