JONATHAN GRANT High are the 2007 First Global A-League champions after defeating Dunoon Technical by 74 runs in the final played at Melbourne Oval on Friday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 65 for four with an overall lead of 162 and six second-innings wickets remaining, Jonathan Grant failed to cope with the bowling of Shevaughn Latham, who claimed 4-12, and Atroy Solomon, who returned figures of 4-17, as they were dismissed for 117, setting Dunoon 214 to lift the crown.

Dunoon started their second innings confidently with their openers hitting two boundaries in the first over.

However, Dunoon's hopes were short- lived and they were soon reduced to 68 for seven.

An eighth-wicket partnership of 44 between Latham and Shavaughn Edwards gave them a glimmer of hope of overhauling Jonathan Grant, but they were dealt a crucial blow when left-arm wrist spinner Errol Williams caught and bowled Edwards for 19 with the score on 112 for eight.

Twenty-six runs later, offspinner Marlon Henry struck twice. First he removed Sean Lowe for 10 at 139 for nine and then wrapped up the innings, and in the process crowned his team champions with the last ball of his 18th over when he had Carlton Graham bowled without adding to the score.

Final scores: Jonathan Grant 208 and 117, Dunoon 112 and 139.
