The Editor, Sir:I do not speak for Hope 2007 or any of its partners. I speak purely as a concerned citizen who led a group of young people in the clean-up effort on Sunday, February 25.
You should have seen the spirit of enthusiasm, unity and excitement on the faces of childrenand youth ranging from age nine to over 30 years. They responded to the rallying call and came with pure, honest hearts and consciences to work for their God and fellowmen. And they will be there for as long as it's necessary. Hats off to you guys! You are great kids. Thank you for giving to the Lord. We love you.
I simply say to persons who are otherwise-minded, leave the children and youth out of the political football. Do not corrupt pure minds to score political mileage or any other such points. It's just not worth it. Please allow our children to learn and practise that which has been missing to a large extent in our society - a spirit of sacrifice, volunteerism and caring.
I simply say get your points scored however which way you want to, but please leave my innocent, selfless, darling, Christian and sincere children out of it. You may not owe any apology to Hope 2007 and its partners, but you most definitely owe the hurting, caring children of Jamaica an urgent public apology.
Thank you.
I am, etc.,
