Double homicide in Jones Town
published: Saturday | March 3, 2007

TWO MORE murders were recorded in the Kingston West Police Division yesterday, with a double homicide in the fractious Jones Town community.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that 30-year-old Lloyd Foster and his girlfriend, 29-year-old Cassandra Beckford, were shot and killed by heavily-armed gunmen at the latter's home at Penn Street.

According to a statement from CCN, the incident took place at 2:15 a.m. Up to yesterday afternoon, no arrests had been made.

Spells of gang violence

Jones Town, located in the constituency of South St. Andrew, has experienced spells of gang violence during the past two years, resulting in the deaths of several persons.

There has been renewed violence in recent weeks. On February 9, 68-year-old Ronald Williams and his 50-year-old common-law wife, Angella Allen, were killed by gunmen at Torrington Park.

One week later, police from Kingston west killed Miguel Ebanks, a reputed gang leader who they said had a role in the murders.

Ebanks was allegedly a member of the Joe Benbow gang that has terrorised sections of south St. Andrew.

Superintendent Delroy Hewitt, who heads the Kingston West Police Division, said recently that two assault rifles and just over 200 rounds of ammunition have been seized in South St. Andrew this year.
