"Let's go retro!" said the invite to City of Kingston Co-operative Credit Union's (COK) 40th anniversary party, which was held on Friday, March 2, at their newly improved Slipe Road branch.
The party turned out to be a 'groovy' bash, as it had all the right ingredients including good music, swinging vibes, a comical master of ceremonies and good company, and in all the right proportions.
Elva, the master of ceremonies, in her usual amusing manner, guided the guests through a night of guiltless partying, encouraging them to kick up their heels on the dance floor.
The music by DJ Squeeze and Skyy Disco, the consummate 'retro' sound systems, perfectly fit the theme, and in the earlier hours they drew on some dance and house mixes, before moving into the reggae tunes, coming through the all eras from ska and rocksteady, all the way up to dancehall.
Songs like Freddy McGregor's Longing To See You had the hips swaying gently, then Sean Paul's Give It Up To Me got them moving vigorously.
There was ample 'grub' and 'booze' to refuel after a hectic bout of dancing. Whatever your taste, it was there to have, and one could visit one's choice of the soup spot, jerk pit and just curry, and even so -so sweet, to have dessert.
Among the guests who shared in the celebrations with COK were Maurice Foster, Dania Bogle, Kimberly Blair, Michael Edwards, Carol Francis, Jillian Evans, Denise Hunt, Errol Gregory and Roland Henry.
