Members of the Jamaica Military Band delivers a grand performance at the opening ceremony of the 2007 Cricket World Cup at the Trelawny multi-purpose stadium.
Cricket fans are in for a treat today as the Red Stripe mound kicks off festivities at Pier One in Montego Bay.
Red Stripe will recreate the usual mound experience of Sabina Park at Pier One with entertainment, great food and a good cricket vibe.
The all-inclusive event starts at 8 a.m. and will feature Dancehall group Voicemail and Renaissance disco with MC Ron Muschette.
Owing to ICC CWC regulations, the Red Stripe mound as Jamaicans know it is no longer a part of Sabina Park.
Carlo Redwood, group marketing manager for Red Stripe, said that the company realised that without the mound at Sabina Park, there would be a void in the cricket experience for many fans. Red Stripe chose to recreate that experience elsewhere.
"The mound is a major part of cricket for Jamaicans. Our decision to have these mound events was only natural as we saw this as a great opportunity to make Cricket World Cup accessible to everyone. It is also a way for us to showcase our food, entertainment and hospitality to the rest of the world," Mr. Redwood said.
