Cable and Wireless to partner with KSAC
published: Thursday | March 15, 2007

Kingston Mayor Desmond McKenzie said Tuesday that the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) would be partnering with Cable and Wireless to improve the Corporate Area.

McKenzie said details of the partnership would be revealed tomorrow at a press conference scheduled for the Pearnel Charles Arcade in downtown Kingston.

"At that press conference we will make certain announcements as to where we go," he revealed at the monthly meeting of the KSAC.

Reasonably satisfied

Earlier, the mayor said he was reasonably satisfied with the level of work done to prepare the city to host Cricket World Cup.

He said the council had covered all the areas it had planned to target and had even gone beyond these targeted areas.

The mayor said the council had repaired some 48 roads, replaced 250 signs, including stop signs, one-way signs and directional signs. He said a number of buildings were repaired and demolished in preparation for Cricket World Cup.

He, however, appealed to councillors and residents of the Corporate Area not to look at this as a one off situation.

"We cannot do things just for our visitors without considering the needs of our constituents," he said. "We have an obligation to ensure that we keep these improvements at current levels."
